On the Approximation of Finding A(nother) Hamiltonian Cycle in Cubic Hamiltonian Graphs

چکیده
It is a simple fact that cubic Hamiltonian graphs have at least two Hamiltonian cycles. Finding such a cycle is NP -hard in general, and no polynomial time algorithm is known for the problem of finding a second Hamiltonian cycle when one such cycle is given as part of the input. We investigate the complexity of approximating this problem where by a feasible solution we mean a(nother) cycle in the graph. First we prove a negative result showing that the Longest Path problem is not constant approximable in cubic Hamiltonian graphs unless P = NP . No such negative result was previously known for this problem in Hamiltonian graphs. In strong opposition with this result we show that there is a polynomial time approximation scheme for finding another cycle in cubic Hamiltonian graphs if a Hamiltonian cycle is given in the input.

Geometric-Arithmetic Index of Hamiltonian Fullerenes
A graph that contains a Hamiltonian cycle is called a Hamiltonian graph. In this paper we compute the first and the second geometric – arithmetic indices of Hamiltonian graphs. Then we apply our results to obtain some bounds for fullerene.
متن کاملA linear algorithm for finding Hamiltonian cycles in 4-connected maximal planar graphs
The Hamiltonian cycle problem is one of the most popular NP-complete problems, and remains NP-complete even if we restrict ourselves to a class of (3-connected cubic) planar graphs [5,9]. Therefore, there seems to be no polynomial-time algorithm for the Hamiltonian cycle problem. However, for certain (nontrivial) classes of restricted graphs, there exist polynomial-time algorithms [3,4,6]. In f...
متن کاملChords of Longest Cycles in Cubic Graphs
We describe a general sufficient condition for a Hamiltonian graph to contain another Hamiltonian cycle. We apply it to prove that every longest cycle in a 3-connected cubic graph has a chord. We also verify special cases of an old conjecture of Sheehan on Hamiltonian cycles in 4-regular graphs and a recent conjecture on a second Hamiltonian cycle by Triesch, Nolles, and Vygen. 1997 Academic Press
متن کاملNote on Petrie and Hamiltonian cycles in cubic polyhedral graphs
In this note we show that deciding the existence of a Hamiltonian cycle in a cubic plane graph is equivalent to the problem of the existence of an associated cubic plane multi-3-gonal graph with a Hamiltonian cycle which takes alternately left and right edges at each successive vertex, i.e. it is also a Petrie cycle. The Petrie Hamiltonian cycle in an n-vertex plane cubic graph can be recognize...
متن کاملAn iterative method for the Hermitian-generalized Hamiltonian solutions to the inverse problem AX=B with a submatrix constraint
In this paper, an iterative method is proposed for solving the matrix inverse problem $AX=B$ for Hermitian-generalized Hamiltonian matrices with a submatrix constraint. By this iterative method, for any initial matrix $A_0$, a solution $A^*$ can be obtained in finite iteration steps in the absence of roundoff errors, and the solution with least norm can be obtained by choosing a special kind of...
